June 25 and 26, 2011  -  6th Annual Mountaintop Heritage Days

A number of people and organizations need to be thanked for making the 6th Annual Mountaintop Heritage Days, which were recently held in Blue Ridge Summit, PA and Cascade, MD, a rousing success.  First, thanks to all who attended and participated in the two-day event.  The fireworks were spectacular as usual, and the Salute to our Armed Forces by the Williamsport Community Band dramatic and stirring.

Second, enough praise nor thanks can be given to the over 90 One Mountain Foundation members and community volunteers who came out and helped with the dirty, but necessary, tasks of directing traffic, parking, or picking up trash.  Third, thanks to all the craft, food and business vendors; Civil War reenactors; providers of the children's games and rides, boats, and helicopter; car and steam engine show participants; and musical entertainers.  Each brought their unique offering to the event.  The steam-engine driven ice cream churns produced heavenly home-made ice cream!

Fourth, thanks to our corporate and business sponsors for supporting and trusting the One Mountain Foundation to organize and conduct such a large and complex event.  Our sponsors this year included PenMar Development Corporation, Corporate Offices Property Trust, The Hagerstown-Washington County Convention & Visitors Bureau, ISP Minerals Inc., McLaughlin's Heating Oils and LP Gas, Mountain Gate Family Restaurant, Flohr True Value Lumber, and the Fort Ritchie Community Center.  And lastly, thanks to The Catoctin Banner and WHAG TV25 for their support and superb coverage of our event.

The 6th Annual Mountaintop Heritage Days showed how a small, dedicated and determined community group, working together, can make a huge impact resulting in successful fundraising for multiple non-profits, and good family fun for all who attended.  The non-profit organizations that will benefit from this two-day event are the three churches, two volunteer fire departments, and Sons of the American Legion food vendors; the Fort Ritchie Community Center; and the One Mountain Foundation Scholarship Fund.

     Again, thanks to all.

September 30, October 1 & 2, 2011  -  4th Annual Fall Dinner Theater

The Night is My Enemy

The One Mountain Foundation will host the Blue Ridge Theater Guild in their production of The Night Is My Enemy, a mystery by Fred Carmichael.  The play will be presented in a dinner theater format to be held at the Blue Ridge Summit Pennsylvania Fire Hall on Friday and Saturday evenings, September 30th and October 1st, and Sunday afternoon, October 2nd.  Doors for the evening performances will open at 6:30 p.m., dinner will be served at 7:00 p.m. with the show starting at 8:00 p.m.  For the Sunday matinee, doors will open at 11:30 a.m., light fare will be served at 12:00 p.m. with the show starting at 1:00 p.m.

Tickets for the evening performances are $40.00 per person and include a buffet dinner provided by the Mountain Gate Family Restaurant.  Tickets for the matinee performance are $30.00 per person and include a light fare.  Tickets are available from any One Mountain Foundation Board member or by calling Alice Humphrey at 717-794-5121 or Nina Rouzer at 717-794-0061.  Group advance seating is available by also calling either Alice or Nina.

The story of The Night Is My Enemy revolves around Roane Shepperley, a blind girl, and her change from a girl into a woman.  An accidental death is proved to be murder and it becomes obvious that a maniac is intent upon getting rid of those who are imperfect, making Roane next.  An attempt on her life reveals the murderer to the audience but not to Roane.  Slowly but surely all those in the house are taken care of until Roane faces the murderer alone – a blind girl versus an unbalanced killer.  This exciting production is directed by Doris Merson.

This production is an important event for the One Mountain Foundation and caps the fourth year sponsorship of a fall dinner theater on the mountaintop.  The Blue Ridge Fire and Rescue Squad donate the use of their building, and Alice and her committee, with the help of the Blue Ridge Garden Club, turn the fire hall into a beautiful theater for the weekend.  It's a fun filled evening with a major portion of the proceeds going to support the Blue Ridge Theater Guild and the One Mountain Foundation Scholarship Fund.

October 23, 2011  -  Mountaintop Community Churches'

2nd Annual Community Harvest Celebration

The pastors of seven mountaintop churches in Cascade and Sabillasville, Maryland and Blue Ridge Summit and Fairfield, Pennsylvania hosted an old-fashion community harvest celebration on October 23, 2011 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Fort Ritchie Community Center in Cascade, Maryland.  The purpose of the celebration is to recall the many wonderful memories of times gone-by when most churches held festivals in the fall to celebrate the bounty of the harvest and give thanks for the gift of life.  This gathering brought the mountaintop communities together to share in a celebratory program of great music, a time of praise and testimony for God's goodness to us, and great tasting seasonal pies.  The music for the program covered a broad range of appeal, to include bluegrass, traditional and contemporary worship style music.  And a showcase of pies ws enjoyed by all.

This was the third combined community churches' event for 2011.  The first two events were the June Mountaintop Heritage Day's Community Worship Service and the recent Remembrance Service on the 10th Anniversary of 9/11.  These experiences have brought people together and provided an opportunity for the people of the community to interact and get to know one another.  The pastors desire to see an even greater sense of community and connectedness among all who live here on the mountaintop.  This old-fashion community harvest celebration is another opportunity for our friends and neighbors to interact with one another and have fun, enjoy fellowship, good music and great food at the same time.

The pastors and churches involved were Pastor Janet Comings, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and St. John’s United Church of Christ, Sabillasville; Pastor Richard Daughtridge, Jacob’s Church, Fairfield; Pastor Arietta Grimmett, “Life Changing Ministries” of the Church of God of Prophecy, Sabillasville; Pastor Mark Hosler, Germantown Church of God, Cascade; Father Robert Malagesi, St. Rita Catholic Church, Blue Ridge Summit; and Pastor Sandy Price, St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ, Cascade.

The Fort Ritchie Community Center, the One Mountain Foundation, and the Sons of the American Legion Post #239 assisted in support of this celebratory program.

December 3, 2011  -  Community Tree Lighting and Fun with Santa

The One Mountain Foundation will hold a Mountaintop Community Tree Lighting and Fun with Santa activity from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. for December 3, 2011 at the Fort Ritchie Community Center in Cascade, Maryland.  The event is free and open to the public.

A large evergreen on the east end of the historic Fort Ritchie Parade Field will be decorated with hundreds of lights.  Santa will arrive by horse-drawn wagon.  A short tree lighting program will be conducted and then all will go inside the Fort Ritchie Community Center to participate in various children games and activities for multiple age groupings with prizes awarded to game winners.  Santa will be available for photos and to hear "wishes" from the children.  Refreshments will be served.

This event will rekindle memories of similar events from years past in the community and on the Fort Ritchie property.  The PenMar Development Corporation and the Fort Ritchie Community Center are additional co-sponsors of the event.

This will be the last formal OMF hosted event for 2011 and ends a highly successful year in terms of the number of events held and the amount of funds provided to or raised by local mountaintop non-profit organizations as a result of OMF's various events and activities.
