ONE MOUNTAIN FOUNDATION MEMBERSHIP

October 15, 2012

The One Mountain Foundation has kicked off the 2013 membership drive.  This is our 11th year of serving our mountaintop community.  OMF's annual membership year is between January 1st and December 31st.

OMF has very successfully accomplished goals over the past 11 years that supported our missions.

  • Educational programs.  2012 inaugurated OMF's Scholarship Program to recognize outstanding and deserving students from the schools serving the Mountaintop.  Five $1,000 scholarships were awarded to a very deserving senior from each of the following schools:  Catoctin High School, Fairfield Area High School, Living Word Academy, Smithsburg High School, and Waynesboro Area Senior High School.  All of the awardees outstandingly represented our future leaders and professionals.

  • Historical Preservation.  OMF conducted “Thunder on the Mountain” Civil War historical seminar; "Understanding the East German Soldier of the Cold War" living history symposium; "Memories of Pen Mar" which included memorabilia collector displays, live music, and the premier of the Historical Entertainment film The Grand Hotels of the Blue Ridge; and the premier of another Historical Entertainment historic documentary titled Ten Days and Still They Come: The Battle of Monterey Pass, complete with live music, period readings, displays of memorabilia and historic artifacts, and re-enactors in period clothing.  OMF is working with the Mountain Heritage Historical Society to develop a museum to document the historical significance of the Mountaintop.  Additionally, OMF worked with community and state and local governmental organizations to erect a State of Pennsylvania and a State of Maryland Civil War Trails Markers in Blue Ridge Summit, PA and PenMar Park, MD to commemorate the July 1863 Battle of Monterey Pass.

  • Community improvement projects.  OMF represented Mountaintop residents in establishing the need for a fitness and recreational center resulting in the 2008 opening of the Fort Ritchie Community Center.

  • Cultural activities.  OMF has conducted Mountaintop Heritage Days since 2006 in Blue Ridge Summit and in Cascade on the former Fort Ritchie Army post.  The event has included live entertainment, a parade, craft and food vendors, children's activities and games, living history symposiums, car shows, fireworks, a community worship service, and other fun activities.  Local non-profit organizations have benefitted over the years by collectively netting over $51,000 from this event.  Additionally, since 2008, OMF in conjunction with the Blue Ridge Theatre Guild, has conducted fall and spring dinner theaters for the community's enjoyment.
  • Special projects benefiting the Mountaintop.  OMF has sponsored events and accepted tax deductible donations for community organizations such as the "Help Hotline" (community food bank) and the Cascade Elementary School PTA for replacement of the school's playground equipment.  OMF conducts an Annual Tree Lighting/Fun with Santa event for our Mountaintop children.

All these activities occurred in our local Mountaintop communities, allowing our community organizations to receive much deserved recognition and financially profit from the conduct of the events.

OMF’s plans for the 2013 membership year are to continue to build on past successes by conducting the 8th Annual Mountaintop Heritage Days, two dinner theaters, historically focused activities, and additional fund-raisers for community organizations.  A goal for 2013 is to award $1,000 scholarships to a deserving senior in each of the high schools serving the Mountaintop.  OMF will continue to work for the development of the Mountain Heritage Museum and will work in coordination with the Mountain Heritage Historical Society to accomplish this.

The OMF Board of Directors hopes that you will join with us in 2013, and additionally participate on one of our committees.  The Board hopes that you will also consider an additional tax deductible gift and receive the recognition mentioned in the application included with this letter.  Your generosity greatly assists the One Mountain Foundation in accomplishing the planned activities in the upcoming membership year, benefiting not only yourself as a donor, but the Mountaintop community as a whole.   Please print and complete the membership application whose link is at the right.

The OMF Board also welcomes business/corporate sponsorships.  For your sponsorship, your business/corporation will receive acknowledgement in all printed OMF event programs, OMF Information Table display at community events, and on the OMF web site Home Page for the 2012 calendar year.  Please complete the sponsorship application also whose link is at the right..
