2013 ONE MOUNTAIN FOUNDATION EVENTS

September 7 and 8, 2013  -  1st Annual Gathering of the Arts

at Lake Royer

The One Mountain Foundation is proud to present the inaugural Gathering of the Arts at Lake Royer show at the beautiful setting of Lakeside Hall on Lake Royer, on the former Fort Ritchie Army Base, Cascade, Maryland on Saturday, September 7, 2013 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday, September 8, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  The show will feature two and three dimensional juried art.

The Saturday evening's event will be an opening of the two-day show with a reception for the artists.  Saturday's admission is $20.00 and will include wine, coffee, tea and a light fare.   The admission for Sunday is $15.00 which includes coffee, tea and a light fare.

A special thank-you goes to the PenMar Development Corporation for assisting in co-sponsoring the event and to the Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau for sponsoring both days entertainment.  The Giuliani Dou with Julie Belle Huff on flute and Jeff Lockwood on guitar will be featured on Saturday evening and the Rocky Birely Combo will be featured on Sunday afternoon.  Wine will be provided by the Red Heifer Winery

Limited space is still available for artists interested in joining the show are encouraged to complete and send an application for consideration.  Please call Alice Humphrey at 717-794-5121 first in insure your space.  The application is provided on the link below. Booth space is 8-ft wide x6-ft deep.  Further details are on the application form.

March 23, 2013  -  3rd Annual Spaghetti Dinner, Auction,

and Dance

The One Mountain Foundation will host an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner, auction, and dance on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the American Legion Post #239 on McAfee Hill Road in Cascade, MD.  The menu includes spaghetti, tomato or meat sauce, meat balls, Italian bread and a variety of rolls, salad with choice of dressings, dessert, and drink (coffee, tea, or water).  Dinner will start at 5:00 p.m., a 7:00 p.m. auction, and dancing from 8:00 until 11:00 p.m.

Tickets cost $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for those ages 5 to 12.  Those under 5 will be admitted free.  Advance sale tickets are available from any One Mountain Foundation Board member or by calling Dave Sanders at 717-794-9988 or Jeff Coyle at 301-241-3964.  Seating will be limited, so best to reserve a place with a ticket early.  Jeff Coyle, Chairperson of OMF's Events Committee said:  "Everyone, especially families, are welcome.  It will be an evening of great food, fun and surprises! "  Additionally, the 3rd Annual Pillar of the Community Award will be given to the mountaintop resident who has exhibited outstanding leadership, volunteerism, and selfless dedication while serving our mountaintop community.  Previous awardees were Jerry Scruggs of Blue Ridge Summit, PA (2011) and Jim Bittner of Sabillasville, MD (2012).

This event kicks off OMF's activities for 2013.  Proceeds from this event will support the OMF Scholarship Program and the 8th Annual Mountaintop Heritage Days scheduled for June 29th.

May 19, 2013  -  2nd Annual Children's Fishing Rodeo

The One Mountain Foundation is hosted the 2nd Annual Children's Fishing Rodeo at the beautiful Lake Royer on the former Fort Ritchie Army Base in Cascade, Maryland.  An educational and  fun filled fishing event for children ages 5 – 12 was held on Sunday morning, May 19, 2013 from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. 

The rodeo consisted of three stations – one being an educational presentation from the MD Department of Natural Resources on fish habitat and identification and proper catch and release techniques; two being a hands-on session on casting; and three being actual fishing in the lake.  The Rodeo creel limits were 10 bass (14 inches or shorter); a combination of 10 blue gill, sunfish, or crappie; and 5 catfish.

The children were divided into three age divisions: 5 – 6, 7 – 9, and 10 – 12 with prizes awarded for the top three biggest/heaviest fish in each of the age divisions. 

A special thank-you goes to the PenMar Development Corporation for assisting by co-sponsoring the event and to Frank, Paul, and Carrie Mummert for coordinating all the details to make the event successful for the children.

June 29, 2013  -  8th Annual Mountaintop Heritage Days

The 8th Annual Mountaintop Heritage Days will be held on Saturday June 29th in Blue Ridge Summit, PA and Cascade, MD.  The multiple events are open to the public and will include the following (unless otherwise noted, events/activities are on the former Fort Ritchie Army post in Cascade, MD and are available from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.):

  • Annual parade starting at 9:00 a.m. from the National Book Network's parking lot in Blue Ridge Summit and ending on the Fort Ritchie property in Cascade.  Click here for a parade registration form.
  •  
  • Food, craft¸ and business vendors.
  • Kids Hip Hop Dance and Cheerleading Demonstration at 10:45 a.m.
  • Waynesboro Children's Theatre Troupe Performance at 12:00 p.m.
  • Salute to the Military with the U.S. Army Garrison Fort Detrick Color Guard Team and the Williamsport Community Band at 8:00 p.m.
  • Fireworks by Master Displays Limited at dark.
  • Children's games and activities (50 tickets for $20.00; 3 – 5 tickets/activity).
  • Rock 'N' Roll Racing (remote control race track) ($2.00/race).
  • Boating (kayak, canoe, paddleboat) ($5.00/person) on Lake Royer on the Fort Ritchie property.
  • Civil War living history encampment and historical demonstrations.
  • World War II living history and historical displays.
  • 5th Annual Mountain Thunder Car "Cruis-in".
  • Steam engine displays.
  • ATM available.

A number of the community churches, fire departments, and the Sons of the American Legion will be providing a wide selection of scrumptious food.  The annual Mountaintop Heritage Days is a key fund-raising activity for these non-profit organizations.  There is a parking fee of $5.00 per vehicle.  Space is still available for craft and business vendors.
